Design & Technology
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject that is embedded into our knowledge-rich curriculum.
“Design is intelligence made visible.”
Alina Wheeler
Students investigate and evaluate existing products, thinking about their function, their audience, their design and appearance.
Using a range of skills and processes, pupils learn to design their own objects for a purpose. They are taught to use a range of tools and materials safely and to evaluate their own work and that of their peers. Precisely, children are taught to design, make, evaluate and use technical knowledge when working on a project. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
Cooking
Winsor is proud to offer cooking lessons as part of the DT curriculum. Children use recipes, which are carefully chosen, to create exciting dishes and enjoy their creation as a class. They learn about food: preparation, nutrients, presentation, taste and cleanliness. The recipes are designed to ensure that all allergies are considered and alternatives are provided. We have adjusted our recipes to cater for Vegans too.
