Start by agreeing simple home rules: discuss what is appropriate, when devices can be used, and what to do if something upsetting appears. Regularly check privacy settings on apps and games, and consider using parental controls to limit unsuitable content and spending. Encourage your child to speak to you straight away if they see or receive anything worrying, and remind them never to share personal details such as their full name, address, school, or passwords. Build trust by keeping conversations ongoing - ask what they enjoy online, watch together when possible, and praise good choices so your child feels comfortable coming to you for help.
